We’ve just announced our plans for a 2019 Gala fundraiser celebrating the 30th anniversary of our flagship performance program, Summer Fest. Raising vital funds for our performance and education programs, the event will build on the excitement of our last gala, expanding on our Mardi Gras theme with great food prepared by Il Fornaio, a lively auction, dancing and general New Orleans decadence, highlighted by a performance by Post Modern Jukebox sensation Gunhild Carling. It’ll be a magical night!
A native of Gothenburg, Sweden, Gunhild Carling is an incomparable multi-instrumentalist, singer and dancer with a unique sound that harkens to jazz’s golden
age. Her spellbinding performances include bravura turns on twenty musical instruments including trumpet, trombone, harp, bass, piano and others, peppered with virtuosic tap dancing and a delightful period vocal style. She began her professional career at the age of seven, at a festival in Malmö, Sweden. Since then, she’s gone on to play concerts all over the world, including two Command Performances for Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf. In 2014, she placed third in Sweden’s TV ballroom dance competition, Let’s Dance. More recently, Gunhild has become a popular soloist for Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox, racking up over 6 million views on YouTube.
