On April 30, we present an entire afternoon of free community events from 12–8pm at the Hammer Theatre Center in downtown San Jose in celebration of International Jazz Day. Inside the theater we offer a screening of the documentary 1959, The Year That Changed Jazz, followed by drummer Will Calhoun’s Tribute to Elvin Jones and the San Jose State University Jazz Orchestra with vocalist Tiffany Austin. Outside on the Plaza, our mobile Boom Box Stage will be active from 12-4:45pm, with a hip-hop dance show and clinic by FutureArtsNow!; performances by SJZ’s Progressions Ensemble and High School All Stars U19s Combo and more.
