The SJZ Collective returns to Winter Fest to premiere their latest project: works from the legendary Wayne Shorter. This ever-evolving group of master players has performed internationally during a 2018 tour of Taiwan and all over the country–including at SJZ’s Summer Fest.

From his work with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and Miles Davis’ second great quartet and on to his own groups in the ’60s and the legendary fusion group Weather Report in the ’70s Wayne Shorter has left his mark all over the timeline of the history of jazz. And he is still breaking barriers and creating to this day. The sound of his saxophone is undeniably Wayne. And so are all the distinctly Wayne Shorter compositions he penned along the way. The SJZ Collective is honored to play many of these compositions, with each of the members contributing a distinct arrangement to the project.
