Flautist Rebecca Kleinmann, a natural improviser with a rich international career, uses highly-tuned musical instincts to deliver heartfelt melodies and shape intriguing solos, her playing informed by immersion in the cultures of jazz, Spain, Brazil and beyond. Several composers including Hermeto Pascoal, Jovino Santos Neto, Ian Faquini, Carlos Oliveira, Elizabeth Kasius, Dan Neville and others have written original music inspired by her. She has performed and recorded with world-class musicians including the above-mentioned composers, Airto Moreira, Toninho Horta, dancers Rosagela Silvestre, Melissa Cruz and others. She leads several ensembles, teaches, tours widely and locally graces the stages including the SF Jazz Center, Yoshi's, the Sound Room, the Healdsburg Jazz Festival and The San Jose Jazz Summer Fest.
This concert highlights Rebecca's collaboration with outstanding singer and composer Tiffany Austin. The two artists explore new original music together and bring their own lyrics to bebop tunes. Also featured will be their arrangements of music by McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Tina Brooks, Milton Nascimento and Pixinguinha. Rebecca and Tiffany will be in the great musical company of pianist Tammy Hall, bassist Aaron Germain and drummer Dillon Vado.
