Lysn and William Johnston, both prolific collaborators, join forces for a special performance built around a shared language of improvisation. Drawing inspiration from the surrounding artwork, this unique Make Music Day performance will feature new twists on old songs, and completely spontaneous creations.

William Johnston is a genre-defying multi-instrumentalist from San José who is finally stepping into his own after a decade of accompanying some of the Bay Area’s top talent. His music is truly an original synthesis of many genres and styles, drawing from the wry wit of Steely Dan, the rhythmic elegance of traditional Brazilian and Cuban music, and the folky R&B of Al Green. William’s candid and delicate vocal stylings lay over a bed of his signature greasy rhythm guitar, creating a truly timeless experience.

Presented in partnership with San Jose Jazz, in observance of Juneteenth, in celebration of Make Music Day and in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibition Seeing through Stone.
