The dynamic Mexican conga player Javier Cabanillas has come a long way since he started performing in pop-up flea markets in the streets of Tijuana, Mexico.  A few years ago, the Bay Area resident walked the red carpet in Los Angeles and took home a Grammy Award in the Best Latin Tropical Album of the Year category for his work with the San Francisco-based Pacific Mambo Orchestra.  After that triumphant experience, he decided to concentrate on writing and arranging for his Cabanijazz Project, which has been creating a unique sound and his compositions has garnished Four-Start ratings in Downbeat Magazine as well as broadcasts in NPR, PBS, and United Airlines.
