After School Program Coordinator

After School Beginning Band Lead Teacher

We are currently seeking an experienced music educator or teaching artist to lead our Progressions after school band program in the Franklin-McKinley School District. Our mission? To keep participants in school, out of gangs, and to empower families and communities through music education and performance.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality music instruction to beginning and intermediate band students (clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone)
  • Ensure the smooth flow of daily programming
  • Act as role model and advisor to students
  • Maintain a positive classroom culture

Qualifications

  • At least 1 year experience teaching band to elementary-aged students
  • Complete knowledge of band instruments and beginning band pedagogy
  • Experience leading and supervising a small team of 2-3 individuals
  • Punctual, self-starter, and flexible
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a patient demeanor
  • Interested in implementing culturally responsive teaching and restorative justice education strategies

Work Hours

  • 6 -12 hours per week during the school year (2-4 days per week, after school Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs)
    Some Saturday mornings, weekends and evenings

Pay

  • Commensurate with experience.

  • Currently enrolled as a music education student
  • Basic knowledge of band instruments and beginning band pedagogy
  • Interested in learning how music education and youth development intersect
  • Punctual, self-starter, and flexible
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a patient demeanor
  • Willingness to work collaboratively with others

Work Hours

  • 6-12 hours per week during the school year (2-4 days per week, after school Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs) Some Saturday mornings, weekends and evenings.

Internship Stipend

  • $410 per month

After School Program Coordinator

  • Coordinate administrative and logistic functions of delivering a high-quality music education program
  • Execute daily snack program
  • Provide homework support to students
  • Ensure the smooth flow of daily programming
  • Act as role model and advisor to students
  • Maintain a positive classroom culture

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of child development and trauma-informed care
  • Interested in learning how music education and youth development intersect
  • Punctual, self-starter, and flexible.
  • Strong organizational skills and a patient demeanor
  • CPR and First-Aid certification (optional)

Work Hours

  • 6 -12 hours per week during the school year (2-4 days per week, after school Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs)
  • Some Saturday mornings, weekends and evenings

Pay

  • $15 per hour
