Come celebrate the South Bay’s stacked jazz scene every Monday night at Five Points with a free jazz jam, co-presented by San Jose Jazz. Each evening begins with a concert by the house band followed by an open jam session for all jazz musicians looking to perform for a live audience. Reflecting a new bandleader each week, the band will serve up an evolving selection of jazz works.
Don’t miss this unique opportunity to play and network with other musicians. If you’re not a musician, sneak in to witness the best-known, unknown, and soon-to-be-known jazz artists jamming the night away.
This week’s leader is Bay Area trombonist, composer and educator Kevin Bryson. Bryson is known for incorporating diverse music stylings like rock, salsa and jazz on the trombone. In high school Bryson was the recipient of the Louis Armstrong Award for outstanding musical achievement and was an active member of the SFJazz All Star Big Band. A magna cum laude graduate from Berklee College of Music in Boston in 2008, Bryson was also the recipient of the Lawrence and Alma Berk scholarship. As a teacher Bryson has over 15 years of experience, with students of all ages and abilities on trombone, piano, french horn, trumpet and baritone. His students have auditioned into the top ensembles in their schools and in the area including California All-State Jazz Ensemble, NCBA honor band and the San Jose Jazz High School All Stars. Bryson currently resides in the South Bay and maintains a busy teaching studio with year-round lessons. He can be seen performing with Salsón, The House Rockers, 7th Street Big Band and many other small jazz ensembles throughout the Bay Area.
