This re-scheduled event will take place at the special time of 7:30pm.
Now that in-person performances are verboten, keyboardist/singer/rapper Bennett Roth-Newell teams up with SJZ to present a special live streamed concert and Q&A. He’ll perform some new songs he’s been working on while sheltering in-place on the SF Peninsula. Artists have been hit hard by COVID-19 cancellations and Bennett’s fans are encouraged to support him through PayPal.
After playing mostly classical music during his first few years of studying piano, Bennett set off on a path of learning jazz standards and immersed himself in the music of the jazz giants—especially of legendary jazz pianists Dave Brubeck, Thelonious Monk, and Bill Evans—while developing his sound on the piano as an improviser.
Starting as a teenager, he also found his love of hip-hop and began honing his craft as a lyricist, recording artist, producer, and live performer. Since then, Bennett has played at San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, Yoshi’s, Shoreline Amphitheater and SF’s Great American Music Hall; and alongside some of jazz’s top-flight musicians including Matt Wilson, John Handy, Aaron Lington, Wally Schnalle, Carl Allen and more.
As a supporting player, he’s contributed to albums by The Bad Ones, Mason Razavi, Amy D, Jonah Melvon, Maya Victoria, Tracy Cruz, Greysmith, Soulful Obsession, The JurassiC, James Tha Spitta, B-Jada and many others.
Live From Home is an experimental series of live-streamed concerts presented by San Jose Jazz in response to the quarantines sweeping the world due to the COVID-19 crisis. Look for these 30-40 minute live streams every Monday and Thursday until further notice, when we’ll give you the opportunity to financially support artists directly during this difficult time.
