Anton Schwartz and Kenny Washington

Vocalist Kenny Washington joins saxophonist Anton Schwartz for a powerhouse performance with bassist Ron Belcher, drummer Lorca Hart and Portland-based pianist Randy Porter, a 2018 Grammy Award nominee.

Washington has thrilled audiences across the globe with his soulful interpretations, seemingly limitless range, and inventive scatting. Based in Oakland, he appeared in 2013 with Wynton Marsalis and The Jazz At Lincoln Center Orchestra to perform the oratorio Blood On The Fields alongside vocalists Gregory Porter and Paula West. He returned in 2014 for Basie & The Blues with pianist Eric Reed, in 2016 to celebrate Frank Sinatra’s 100th birthday and again, in 2017, to celebrate Ella Fitzgerald’s 100th birthday alongside Roberta Gambarini. Washington appears internationally as a solo performer and with The Joe Locke Group.

Anton Schwartz has earned a national name for his big tone and his soulful compositions and improvisations. His recent performances include a feature as soloist with the Boston Pops in Symphony Hall and two sold out shows at Jazz at Lincoln Center. His five CDs as a leader have each drawn sterling reviews and strong airplay. His most recent release Flash Mob earned a four star DownBeat review and a long run on the jazz radio Top 10 chart. Schwartz is a longtime faculty member of the California Jazz Conservatory and is an artist-in-residence at Harvard University and the Brubeck Institute.
