SJZ Progressions Announces Concert and Summer Music Camp Dates

Progressions studentsIMG_0932 2 Join San Jose Jazz Progressions students and families for a concert and celebration on Saturday, June 4 at 12pm at the Yerba Buena High School auditorium, 1855 Lucretia Ave., San Jose, CA 95122. We are proud of the accomplishments of our students and look forward to sharing their musical gifts with the community! The concert is free and open to the public. In the past month, Progressions students have continued to hone their performance skills. For example, on April 27 the Santee intermediate band appeared as the opening act at the rollout of the Santee Elementary School Apple ConnectED project. Santee Elementary is one of 114 underserved schools across the U.S. to have been selected as a grantee through a competitive process, which includes Apple donating an iPad to every student, a Mac and iPad to every teacher, and an Apple TV to every classroom. Apple is also implementing a process that provides planning, professional learning, and ongoing guidance so every school can experience the transformational power of technology. Progressions students were also proud to perform as part of the SJZ International Jazz Day celebration on Saturday, April 30, at the Hammer Theatre Center. Progressions_FTT Planning is currently underway for the third annual Progressions Summer Music Camp, which takes place this year at Valley Christian Schools Monday, July 11 to Friday, July 22 (100 Skyway Drive). The end-of-camp concert takes place Thursday, July 21 at 6 pm. It is free and open to the public. Progressions students grades 3-7 (2015-16) are eligible to participate. Thanks to the City of San Jose for your generosity! The Safe Summer Initiative Grants program enables us to offer year-round programming to our students. We are happy to announce the release of a new video focusing on the Progressions students' participation in an outreach event in conjunction with a live taping of NPR's From the Top with Host Christopher O'Riley, presented byVideo_IMG_1528 2 San Jose State University. The video also highlights the ongoing partnership between San Jose Jazz and San Jose State University, and the video team included SJSU graduates. Thanks in part to a generous grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, this year Progressions will produce a series of video blogs that highlight different aspects of the program. Click here to view and share with your friends. And finally, starting in the fall we hope to launch our first-ever Progressions advanced track for middle school students. Check the Progressions page in the coming weeks for details on this college track program that will help prepare our students to compete musically and academically in high school, college and beyond!
