In Memory: Sammy Cohen and Henry SchiroSan Jose Jazz says goodbye to two men who made the Silicon Valley jazz scene what it is today
"What Cohen started, Schiro built into greatness. " Dan Pulcrano, Metro Silicon Valley, 10 Sept. 2008 To honor Henry and Sammy, all of us would like to ask for your help. Part of the mission of San Jose Jazz centers on education. This year we are extending our education programs by starting the new San Jose Jazz Youth Latin Jazz Orchestra. We would like to expand our Summer Jazz Camp as well. Last June, 105 students attended the two week jazz camp. Approximately 40% of those students received some sort of scholarship. We would like to extend the financial help we provide for both of these programs. To honor Henry and Sammy, we will establish a special scholarship fund to enable more students to participate in both the the Summer Jazz Camp and the Youth Latin Jazz Orchestra. Perhaps the best way to honor the past is to build for the future. These scholarships will help launch the next generation of musicians who will keep this great music alive. Please mail the contribution to the San Jose Jazz offices at 145 West San Carlos St., San Jose, CA 95113. Make sure to indicate the contribution is for this fund.
or donate online by clicking here. Please note that the amount of contribution is a default set up. Feel free to enter a different number in the "other $" box. If you have any questions, please contact Madelyn Crawford at 408-288-7557, x2335, or via email
